Sociality
Animal sociality research examines the dynamics of social behaviours within animal communities. Our research uses a wide range of study species to understand group structures, communication patterns, cooperation, and conflict resolution. By observing interactions, such as mating, aggression, parental care, and hierarchical systems, we gain a deeper understanding of the evolutionary, ecological, and behavioural factors shaping sociality. These can help inform conservation strategies, disease ecology, and provide insights into human behaviour and societal structures.
Each of our research themes bring together a diverse set of researchers from within the Department and beyond. Follow the links to their full profiles to find out more about their research interests.
