Overview
As a conservation scientist, my interest is focused on investigating anthropogenic interactions with biodiversity and how these can be mitigated. My research during my MSc studies at the University of Exeter was on river dolphin spatial distribution and abundance in Ucayali, Peru. I am currently working at the Peruvian NGO, ProDelphinus, which works with fishers to develop sustainable practices.
Broad research specialisms
- Marine conservation
- Aquatic vertebrate ecology
- Small-scale fisheries
- Acoustics

Project Title: Aquatic mammal distribution, conservation, and fishery interactions in Peru.
Supervisors: Brendan Godley, Ruth Thurstan
Funding Body: WWF Russell E. Train Fellowship
Project Description:
My Ph.D focusses on distribution and threats river dolphin species face in the Peruvian Amazon. In Peru, these cetacean populations lack baseline information such as habitat use, abundance and the main threats they face. The further objective of this study is to characterize fishery interactions of aquatic mammals, which are listed as protected species under Peruvian law or international agreements, to better understand these events and to work toward identifying and implementing improved conservation measures.
