I hold a joint appointment as Professor in Ecology at the University of Exeter and Individual Merit Scientist (Ecologist) at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. As a community ecologist, I am fascinated by the interactions amongst species and their environment and over the last two decades my research has focused on the effects of environmental change, particularly biological invasions, on biodiversity and ecosystems. My research has been motivated by interest in complex systems and the crucial need for ecological understanding to underpin biodiversity decision-making and address the causes of biodiversity loss.
