Emily Gilford is a PhD student at the University of Exeter investigating the evolution and mechanisms of stress responses in animals. She is supervised by Dr Bram Kuijper, Professor Tom Tregenza, Professor Stuart Townley, and Dr Tim Fawcett at the University of Exeter, and Dr Sinead English at the University of Bristol.
Her research combines field studies on wild populations of Gryllus campestris with members of the WildCrickets research group, and molecular approaches with Professor Chris Bass (Insect Evolutionary Ecology research group) to examine variation in gene expression and the effects of sublethal pesticide exposure on insect behaviour.
Emily’s broader interests include animal stress and social behaviour, adaptation to environmental change, and the role of behavioural and endocrine systems in shaping stress responses.
