I am a PhD student funded by Cats Protection. I am researching the unowned domestic cat (Felis catus) population in the UK. Specifically, I am interested in their characterisation, demographics and abundance. I will investigate the terminology applied to unowned cats and the intention behind word choice. Further, I will undertake population modelling to better understand population dynamics and whether anthropogenic influence mediates natural environmental carrying capacities. Unowned domestic cats in rural areas are particularly understudied and I will contribute to greater understanding of predictors of unowned cats in these areas.
