Biodiversity : Nature Recovery : Land and Food Systems

Business, Innovation, Partnership

I am passionate about finding creative, inspiring, evidence-based solutions for nature's recovery.  I work with researchers, with businesses, and with organisations of all types and all scales to make this happen, especially in relation to restorative farming and innovation within food systems.

After gaining degrees in ecology and environmental policy, I completed my PhD at UCL, where I developed techniques for maximising the breadth of voices heard within the debate about what a sustainable city should be like. I went on to be the Greater London Authority's first sustainability strategy advisor, helping the Mayor define and deliver nature-positive London.

After a move to the south west I expanded my knowledge and experience, working to achieve sustainability within large EU economic growth programmes.  I also ran a butterflyy conservation project for Natural England in Cornwall, trained and practiced as a Buddhist psychotherapist, and managed the EURPARC Atlantic Isles charity, developing research and community engagement partnerships across Europe's protected landscapes.

I joined the University of Exeter in 2010, since when I have had a wide range of different roles within the environmental sector.  I have worked to deliver international partnerships on climate, weather and health with the Met Office, as an Impact and then Project Manager for the SWEEP project and then managed Tevi, which was a a programme that helped over 400 SMEs, across all sectors, find ways to contribute to nature's recovery.  For over three years I worked as a NERC-funded Impact Fellow, researching and delivering nature-based prescriptions for mental health and wellbeing.

I work to make partnerships a success, whether large or small.  I want to see science have a real impact on the ecological emergency, and I'm motivated and inspired by finding new ways to make this happen.
