About me:
I study aquatic ecology, mostly marine, and mostly microbes and algae. I have a background in researching how environmental factors like temperature and salinity shape physiology, population growth, and species interactions. Increasingly I'm interested in using fundamental ecology and physiology to find solutions to contemporary environmental challenges. I'm particularly interested in understanding, and mitigating freshwater and marine harmful algal blooms, and in developing novel approaches to grow seaweed for food.
I'm also excited about using open source technology to enable fundamental ecological research, and to translate research into real world applications. In my lab we use open-source technologies to build lab measurement devices (such as photo-respirometers for measuring respiration and photosynthesis), sensor networks for environmental monitoring, and aquaculture systems for growing seaweed efficiently on land.
If any of that sounds interesting - please feel free to get in touch.
