Ecology and Conservation
I am a postdoctoral researcher in Stuart Bearhop’s research group. My research is primarily focused on assessing what influences the movement and foraging ecology of migratory species. In particular, I am interested in identifying how this variation may impact broader population dynamics and how this can be used to inform conservation and management strategies for these species.
During my PhD, I assessed the impact of a shooting management strategy on the East-Greenland flyway population of Barnacle geese wintering on Islay. This included evaluating changes in foraging behaviour, habitat selection and movement in response to shooting disturbance, and determining the extent of lead ingestion in target and non-target species. In addition, I worked with the AEWA European Goose Management Group to build an integrated population model, to assess the demographic impact of cumulative shooting offtake at a flyway to inform the international management strategy.
